Software Engineering Manager, Google Compute Engine
- Bachelor鈥檚 degree, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript).
- 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
- Experience designing and implementing distributed systems.
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 5 years of experience in managing internal infrastructure, developer tools or distributed computing infrastructure.
- 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
- Experience working in customer-facing products/APIs.
- Ability to manage teams working on distributed and reliable systems.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.
The Managed Infrastructure and Automation (MIAU) organization, as part of control plane within Google Compute Engine (GCE) empowers customers and internal Google Cloud Platform services through seamlessly reliable, cost-effective, and delightfully easy-to-use virtual machine management solutions. The team builds and maintains back-end components for provisioning and orchestrating virtual machines.
In this role, you will focus on delivering cutting-edge solutions that streamline large-scale training, scheduling, and execution on virtual machines. You will bring the latest advancements in the Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) and Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) accelerators directly to our customers, ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed.

- Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and aligned to the broader organization's goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching.
- Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
- Manage team focused around the defined product area within Google Compute Engine.
- Build, grow and retain talent and continually find ways to inspire and challenge the engineering organization.
- Build cross-functional partnerships, and work closely with developers and product managers to identify productivity, production quality and coverage issues, and provide insight on improving both through scale and tooling.
