Optical Metrology Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Optical Test and Validation Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and conducting prototype or product performance studies for AR or Smart Glasses with or without a display module. You will work on building and establishing connections between metrology data and user perceptions to define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and sensitivity limits.Optical Metrology Engineer Responsibilities

- Design and build test beds to evaluate visual quality of an eyepiece or performance of an eye tracker.
- Conduct prototype or product testing to evaluate the performance of eyepiece or eye tracking system under various conditions, including:
- nominal operating conditions
- non-nominal operating conditions
- corner cases
- outdoor environment - Develop and implement study protocols, including participant recruitment, data collection, and data analysis
- Correlate engineering metrics with user perception using statistical analysis and data visualization
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that KPIs and sensitivity limits are aligned with product requirements and design specifications
- Participate in design reviews and provide feedback on eyepiece or eye tracking system design and architecture
- Cross functional collaboration with optical designer, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers and suppliers.
- BS or MS in Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience
- Hands-on experience in building benchtop optical set-ups for proof-of-concept study
- Familiarity with interferometry, wavefront sensing, spectrophotometry, and camera/display image quality and stray light testing
- Experience in statistics analysis and image processing using Python, Matlab or JMP
- Interpersonal communication experience - experience working cross-disciplinary with a broad team
- MS/Ph.D. in the field of Optical Sciences or Optical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in research or advanced development
- Familiarity with camera/lens/display quality validation protocols
- Background in development of image processing/computer vision algorithms or test automation using LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python or another program which enables custom analysis and automation of metrology
- Experience in optical system design maturation, including requirement development from physical based modeling, and measurement system analysis, e.g. gauge r&R
- Experience in one or more optical design tools such as Code V or Zemax
