Optical Metrology Engineer
The EP Test and Validation team is looking for an Optical Metrology Engineer to verify/validate optical design of eyeglass lenses integrated into eyepieces for smart/AR glasses. This work involves understanding of performance requirements and driving alignment of test requirements with engineering design teams, establishing design verification and manufacturing test strategy for proof-of-concept studies or engineering builds, defining test methods for low-volume lab measurement and high-volume mass production, and delivering performance verification and validation report.Optical Metrology Engineer Responsibilities

- Work with engineering teams to understand what matters in the product from a performance point of view
- Take input and convert into parameters that can be objectively measured using off the shelf or custom instruments
- Define test methods and place instruments to test eyeglass lenses in lab and factory for NPI builds
- Create and own test plans for low-volume proof-of-concept studies in lab and high-volume mass production
- Perform measurement and analysis on eyeglass lenses integrated into eyepiece of smart or AR devices
- Present conclusive results and assess visual/optical performance given design goals and product requirements
- Provide actionable recommendations and relevant failure analysis to debug or root-cause issues
- BS or MS in Optical Engineering or Vision Science
- 5+ years of industrial experience in optical metrology or engineering
- Experience in optical performance characterization of eyeglass/photographic lens
- Familiarity with lens meter/mapper, spectrophotometer, interferometer, surface profiler and wavefront sensor
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting of optical systems failure analysis
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and self-directed, with little supervision necessary
- Experience in measurement system analysis and statistical process control
- Communication and presentation skills
- Experience in shipping high-volume product in consumer electronics
- Experience in one or more optical design tools such as Zemax, Code V, LightTools, FRED, or ASAP
- Experience with typical image processing algorithms using Matlab or Python
