Image Quality Engineer

At Meta Reality Labs, we are developing the future of Wearables and Mixed Reality products and this team focuses on developing display and optics technologies for Meta products. Their mission is to create see-through display systems that seamlessly blend the real and virtual realms. This involves designing the architecture and all display sub-systems for AR glasses based on leading technologies developed by Meta’s teams. We work on creating advanced display technologies that are essential for AR and VR systems while having sub-teams who connect bits, electrons, photons, and experience for display products across wearables and the metaverse while focusing on display silicon architecture, applied perception studies, image quality, and defining the roadmap and long-term platform development strategy. Within XDO we also aim to develop and implement test, characterization, metrology, and data solutions to support the creation of transparent display systems.Image Quality Engineer Responsibilities

• Technical leadership and ownership, serving as the primary point of contact for all technical aspects of the camera modules
• Define detailed technical specifications and requirements for the camera modules, ensure that specifications are comprehensive, achievable, and aligned with the overall system architecture and project goals
• Analyze data from actual builds to validate design and simulation accuracy, lead iterative design cycles based on data analysis to ensure continuous improvement and refinement of the camera module
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including architecture, sensor, mechanical, electrical, optical, validation, process, testing, quality, reliability, system hardware and software engineering, etc. to ensure that the camera modules integrate seamlessly into the overall system, resolve technical challenges, and drive project success
• Identify, communicate, and resolve technical risks throughout the development process and implement mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project timelines and deliverables
• Maintain detailed documentation of all technical decisions, design iterations, and testing results
• Regularly report on progress, challenges/escalations, and successes to leadership and other stakeholders
• Lead camera testing and validation efforts to confirm that the final product meets all technical and performance criteria

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
• 2+ years of experience in camera module design, optical simulation, metrology, testing and lab work to verify imaging component, assembly and system level performance
• Experience with high-volume consumer electronics manufacturing, partnering with offshore suppliers and contract manufacturers

Preferred Qualifications

• MS degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related technical discipline
• Systems engineering experience
• Imaging lens design and characterization experience
• Image sensor design, characterization and tuning experience
• Color science and image quality evaluation experience
• ISP tuning experience
• Camera module manufacturing processes and production testing
• Depth sensing system design and manufacturing experience
• Electrical circuit design and testing experience
• Mechanical tolerance analysis experience
• Image processing in Python or Matlab
• Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
• Travel both domestically and internationally up to 10% time
