The Core Infrastructure team at Stripe is entrusted with developing and maintaining the infrastructure utilized by all product teams to create services that underpin all Stripe business operations. This includes defining and executing a vision that ensures industry-leading scale and availability, and actively balancing these concerns with efficiency, latency, and organizational health. We are committed to advancing new distributed services and scaling existing technologies across the industry, in close collaboration with various teams to support their current and future demands, and various external partners in the open source community.
Our infrastructure supports businesses worldwide by processing payments, managing marketplaces, assisting entrepreneurs in launching internet businesses, and more. The Infra organization comprises teams responsible for operating system components, databases, caching, high availability, disaster recovery, cloud infrastructure, Linux servers, container orchestration, mesh networking, service discovery, change management, and network edge infrastructure.
What you’ll do
We are seeking a seasoned engineering leader with a solid technical background to manage and expand the Core Infra engineering organization in Australia. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of starting a new organization in a new location, running critical infrastructure, hiring and retaining top talent, and consistently delivering customer value by fulfilling their commitments. - Establish an organization and define a culture aligned with Stripe’s operational principals.
- Hire and develop top engineering talent.
- Ensure the reliability and availability of tier-0 services.
- Collaborate with team members and Stripe leaders across the globe to define the vision and roadmap.
- Manage top talent to consistently deliver outside customer value.
- Establish and promote operational best practices within your organization.
- Partner with various customers and stakeholders across Stripe globally
Who you are

- Extensive cloud experience with one of the major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, OCI, Google).
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience managing managers.
- Over 15 years of experience in software development.
- Proven ability in defining and driving complex initiatives/projects.
- Experience in hiring top talent and building teams from the ground up.
- Expertise in operations (metrics, alarming, paging, and service availability).
- Capability to thrive in a high-autonomy and high-responsibility environment.

Pay and benefits
The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is A$268,000 - A$402,000. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
