Audio Engineer

The Audio team within Reality Labs (RL) is focused on creating novel audio technologies and experiences that are integral to achieving RL鈥檚 vision for the future of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). Their mission is to create virtual sounds that are perceptually indistinguishable from reality and to redefine human hearing. The team has two primary strategic initiatives: Audio Presence, which aims to make virtual sounds feel physically present in the same space as the listener, and Superhuman Hearing, which enhances the capacity to hear important sounds and conversations regardless of the environment or hearing status. The team collaborates with various product, platform, and service teams to explore opportunities in spatial audio rendering, immersive audio capture, audio signal processing, and human perception. They are also involved in developing audio system architecture, experience optimization, and perceptual quality validation to enable enhanced audio experiences that are indistinguishable from real-world audio.Audio Engineer Responsibilities
  • Supplement and collaborate with global design team effort in early new product development
  • Collaborate with global design partners across Meta, feeding back design change recommendations to ensure audio success
  • Engage with Meta鈥檚 vendors (loudspeakers, microphones, DSP, test fixtures, etc) to solve issues
  • Develop acoustic test protocols and methods with testing teams and equipment suppliers. Own audio requirements for testers, and certify for use
  • Support and own engineering build success, ensuring the audio system performs as designed
  • Drive and report on build readiness, driving equipment, testing, and SOP development
  • Troubleshoot and solve acoustic-mechanical challenges
  • Drive factory failure analysis and corrective action follow-up, directly and through additional FA resources. Drive root cause analysis

About Meta Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. When Facebook launched in 2004, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world. Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology. People who choose to build their careers by building with us at Meta help shape a future that will take us beyond what digital connection makes possible today鈥攂eyond the constraints of screens, the limits of distance, and even the rules of physics.
